Typically, with the use of quarter log siding on a structure, the 3x4 D Trim is the most common option used. The side walls allow for the quarter log siding to butt flush into them and allow enough thickness to apply a bead of caulking to finish off the job. Some installers choose using the 2x6 D Trim with the quarter log for a unique look by cutting a 45 degree chamfer on the end/face of the log siding to transition smoothly into a narrow side wall on the trim. The same can be said about the half log D Trim in that the 4x4 D Trim is the standard, but the use of the 3x6 (with narrow depth on the side wall) will need a custom chamfer cut to transition into the half log siding.
